Opening Prayer                                                                     Terry Bryant

Gracious God, we awake this day in expectation and thanks and ask to receive the opportunity to share your hospitality with all whom we meet. May we welcome you in serving others and grow ever deeper in holiness and right relationship.  This is our prayer; this is our hope. Amen.

*Call to Worship (Responsive)                                          Terry Bryant

I will sing of your steadfast love, O Lord,

and proclaim your faithfulness to all generations.

Your steadfast love endures forever.

Your faithfulness is as high as the heavens.

Happy are those who sing your praise

and extol your righteousness all the day.

*Hymn            There is a Balm in Gilead                                              #792

Prayer for New Beginnings (Unison)                               Terry Bryant

Steadfast God, you greet us as a loving parent and patiently love us beyond all measure. Great is your faithfulness.  May we offer that same kindness to all whom we encounter, knowing it is Christ whom we greet as we welcome others. Amen.

*Passing of the Peace (Responsive)

The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

And also with you.

*Congregational Response         In My Life                            #468 v.1,4

In my life, Lord, be glorified; be glorified.

In my life, Lord, be glorified today,

In your world, Lord, be glorified; be glorified.

In your world, Lord, be glorified today.

HEARING THE WORD

Prayer for Illumination                                                       Terry Bryant

Loving God, as we hear your Word this day, send your Spirit to equip and inspire us, that your grace-filled hospitality may be the center of our lives. Amen.

Old Testament Reading      Psalm 13: 1-6                        Terry Bryant

How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I bear pain in my soul, and have sorrow in my heart all day long? How long shall my enemy be exalted over me? Consider and answer me, O Lord my God! Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep the sleep of death, and my enemy will say, “I have prevailed”; my foes will rejoice because I am shaken. But I trusted in your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, because he has dealt bountifully with me.

New Testament Reading            Matthew 10:40-42

Whoever welcomes you welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. Whoever welcomes a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward; and whoever welcomes a righteous person in the name of a righteous person will receive the reward of the righteous; and whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple—truly I tell you, none of these will lose their reward.

RESPONDING TO THE WORD

*Hymn          Let Us Break Bread Together                                                                              #525

*Affirmation of Faith (Unison)                                    Apostles’ Creed

I BELIEVE in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Invitation to the Lord’s Supper

Great Prayer of Thanksgiving / Responsive

Leader: The Lord be with you.

All: And also with you.

Leader: Lift up your hearts.

All: We lift them to the Lord.

Leader: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

All: It is right to give our thanks and praise.

…So, with praise and gratitude, we remember the words that Jesus taught us to pray, saying:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory forever. Amen.
