Opening Prayer - Gary Kollmann
Creator God, Jesus announced the nearness of your kingdom
and called his disciples to be fishers of women and men. Give
us courage to follow in the way of Jesus, that our lives may
bear witness to the good news of the kingdom at hand and our
vocation serve to draw people to your love; through your Son,
Jesus Christ, in the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

*Call to Worship (Responsive) - Gary Kollmann
The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light;
those who lived in a land of deep darkness—on them light has
shined.
Thanks be to God.

Prayer for New Beginnings (Unison) - Gary Kollmann
Lord Jesus, you call us to follow you. Enable us to hear
your voice above the distractions of this day, to see each
challenge as an opportunity for faithful witness, and to
offer ourselves in obedient service in all that we do. Amen.
*Passing of the Peace (Responsive)
The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
And also with you.
*Congregational Response In My Life #468 v.1,4

In my life, Lord, be glorified; be glorified.
In my life, Lord, be glorified today,
In your world, Lord, be glorified; be glorified.
In your world, Lord, be glorified today.
HEARING THE WORD

Prayer for Illumination - Gary Kollmann
God, illumine our minds by the power of your Holy Spirit, that
as the Scriptures are read and your Word proclaimed our eyes
may see your kingdom, our ears may hear the call of Jesus,
and our hearts may know the joy of your love. Amen.
Old Testament Reading Psalm 27:1, 4-9 - Gary Kollmann
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The
Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? One
thing I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: to live in the
house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty
of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple. For he will hide me in
his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the
cover of his tent; he will set me high on a rock. Now my head is
lifted up above my enemies all around me, and I will offer in his
tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melody to
the Lord. Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud, be gracious to me
and answer me! “Come,” my heart says, “seek his face!” Your
face, Lord, do I seek. Do not hide your face from me. Do not
turn your servant away in anger, you who have been my help.
Do not cast me off, do not forsake me, O God of my salvation!

RESPONDING TO THE WORD

*Hymn Lord, You Have Come to the Lakeside
# 721
*Affirmation of Faith (Unison) Confession of 1967
(edited)
The reconciliation of humanity through Jesus Christ
makes it plain that enslaving poverty in a world of
abundance is an intolerable violation of God’s good
creation. Because Jesus identified himself with the needy
and exploited, the cause of the world’s poor is the cause of
his disciples. The church cannot condone poverty,
whether it is the product of unjust social structures,
exploitation of the defenseless, lack of national resources,
absence of technological understanding, or rapid
expansion of populations. The church calls every person
to use their abilities, their possessions, and the fruits of
technology as gifts entrusted to them by God for the
maintenance of God’s family and the advancement of the
common welfare.
Prayers of Intercession / Lord’s Prayer (Responsive)
Let us pray to the Lord, saying, God of light, hear our prayer.
Loving God, your light reveals the needs of our world, and your
love offers hope for the brokenness in our world. We pray for
our world and our community.
For your holy church, that we may live in harmony with one
another, and our pastors and teachers may be wise and
gracious ministers of the gospel;
God of love, hear our prayer.
For the world and for all who suffer the rod of oppression:
break the yoke of violence, and free all people from the burden
of war and domestic strife;
God of love, hear our prayer.
For the leaders of the nations, that they may be just and faithful
in their duty and serve the good of all creation;God of light,
hear our prayer.
For those who suffer disease of body and mind, that they may
know the power of your healing grace;God of love, hear our
prayer.
For those who have died and for those who will die this day,
that they may find eternal rest; and for those who care for the
dying that they may find peace and comfort.God of light, hear
our prayer.
For other concerns we offer in silence . . .
God of light, hear our prayer.
Hear, O Lord, the cries of your people.
Be gracious to us and answer us, for you are our rock and
redeemer through Christ, who taught us to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy
Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in
heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us
our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the
kingdom, the power and the glory forever. Amen.
